The resources for the anti-vector campaign against the Aedes aegypti mosquito arrived a little late.

The resources for the anti-vector campaign against the Aedes aegypti mosquito arrived a little late in the hands of Health personnel; but they, from their inventiveness, sought ways to get closer to homes to fight this pitched battle that is now beginning.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- “The rate of infestation in the province by dengue fever is higher than in the previous cycle; the health areas located in the Piti Fajardo Polyclinic, in Las Tunas, and the “Romárico Oro,” in Puerto Padre, are the ones with the highest risk,” reported the director of the Provincial Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology, and Microbiology, Yusmara Acosta García.

Most of the cases have been diagnosed in repetitive blocks, which leads to the determination that it is necessary to intensify the focal work, evaluate who the brigade chiefs are, and carry out educational labor with the workers who attend each of these, to reduce the chain of infections.

Among the great problems that the health authorities must face in this cycle are working centers with mosquito hotspots, which should be listed with red letters because there are people in charge of supervising the water reservoirs in each institution.

Measures ranging from fines to their leading managers, to administrative sanctions to those who are responsible for ensuring health quality can be applied by health inspectors.

"We are in the midst of a complex scenario, facing difficult conditions, and we do not deny them, but the first thing we must do is to comply with each measure from the communities, with the help of the population and organizations such as Community Services," Viviana Gutiérrez Rodríguez, director of Health in the province, said.

And it is that one of the main causes of the spread is the number of dumping pits, which reach the figure of 560. The micro dumps, which in the main municipality amount to 17, also represent a risk to the health of the population.

“We must win the battle from the neighborhood, with the support of the Community Work Group, a fundamental entity at this stage; but always insisting on collective responsibility because we must stop transmission and carry out sustainability actions to eradicate these problems” concluded the member of the Central Committee and first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in the province, Manuel Pérez Gallego.
