Although several days have passed since Hurricane Ian hit the western end of Cuba, the peasants of the province of Las Tunas are contributing to the recovery of Pinar del Río, and are also helping to alleviate the difficulties associated with the phenomenon.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- One of these events was carried out by members of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP) in the municipality of Jesús Menéndez, who contributed different products and formed a layette for one of the affected families.

This was reported by the president of the provincial committee of the organization, Roberto Medrano Ledesma, and added that those associated with the El Vaquerito and Rogelio Rojas credit and service cooperatives, from the municipality of Colombia, deposited 43 thousand pesos, as a donation to the people of Pinar del Río.

He also pointed out that eight packages were prepared at the organization's headquarters to be sent to the western territory, including clothing, footwear, toiletries and cleaning products, medicines, and kitchen and household utensils, among others.

The contribution of the Las Tunas peasantry to those most affected by Hurricane Ian was also in the shipment of nearly ten tons of agricultural products, mainly root vegetables, coconut, charcoal, fruit preserves, vinegar, and other agricultural products.

Medrano Ledesma added that ten carpenters and their helpers were selected from the Las Tunas cooperatives, which are ready to leave for Pinar del Río when instructed; peasants who can legally slaughter large cattle are identified for possible donations as well.

Besides the actions of the farmers from Las Tunas, and the forestry workers who are already supporting the recovery efforts, a brigade of 16 workers from the Las Tunas Poultry Company is in Candelaria, Artemisa province, to help repair the damage caused by the weather phenomenon.
