Making an action plan to reduce the risks of flooding in the city of Las Tunas, through the cleaning of drains and sewers and the drainage of ditches and canals, was an indication of Manuel Pérez Gallego, the president of the Provincial Defense Council (CDP) on the National Defense Day.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- During a tour of vulnerable areas, he appreciated the current state of these drains and clarified that it will be a gradual process, divided into stages, in which the quality of the work, the adequate use of the few available resources, and citizen participation must prevail.
That Day was beneficial because it also allowed a broad exchange with residents in the surrounding areas, who recounted their difficult experiences on Saturday, November 12, when there was intense rainfall in a very short time.
Pérez Gallego considered that it is an arduous task because the rainwater evacuation systems have been closing with the dragging of the earth and serious problems of social indiscipline also affect it since numerous solid wastes are deposited there.
Food production was also prioritized, with massive mobilizations -in all Las Tunas municipalities- for the farming of different products that contribute to food sovereignty, especially root and green vegetables that the population will consume in the last days of the year.
From the military point of view, the execution of shooting exercises in several municipalities, the specification of plans, the training of management and command bodies, and the reinforcement of security, protection, and defense of the installations were among the missions.
Although each organization carried out activities planned for the stage, environmental and premises sanitation and the repair of electrical and telephone lines on the Las Tunas-Jobabo highway stood out.
Pérez Gallego and the vice president of the CDP, Jaime Chiang Vega, verified the popular nature of this day in the Victoria de Girón organoponic, the University of Las Tunas, and the Majagual production center, where massive mobilizations were held.
