Las Tunas ensures protection of the electrical system.

The completion of a trail that eliminated weeds over an extension of 30 meters, in areas where the 220-kilowatt transmission lines extend, is an important contribution of Las Tunas to the protection of the National Electricity System.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The work was given the final touches in the last days of December and is a sign of the State's efforts to eliminate vulnerabilities and ensure the provision of this vital service with quality and in correspondence with the availability of generation.

This is recognized by specialists and workers in the sector, who attribute great importance to it in the effort to avoid service interruptions, which may be caused by fires, and also to facilitate access to these gigantic structures to carry out the established maintenance and attend to any breakdowns that may occur as soon as possible.

In this regard, it is worth remembering that last year the country reported four interruptions in the national system due to network tripping caused by fires.

The work was carried out by the companies Unión de Construcciones Militares (UCM in Spanish) and Construcción de Obras de Ingeniería (ECOI19 in Spanish), both from the province of Holguín, as well as the companies Construcción y Montaje (Conalza in Spanish) and Desmonte y Construcción.

This was confirmed to the press by the electrical engineer Ermides Velázquez González, head of the Las Tunas 220 kilovolt electrical substation, who confirmed that the work days were intense, characterized by the careful attention and accompaniment of the men who left the road clean for those in charge of ensuring the proper functioning of these elements, including the 312 towers that support the power lines of the system that provides energy to the province through the Las Tunas-Nuevitas and Las Tunas-Holguín electrical loops.

The benefits extend to three lines: Holguín-Nuevitas, Las Tunas-Nuevitas, and Las Tunas-Holguín, and were materialized after a forced march of approximately 2.5 kilometers per day.

The month of December was the most intense and 67 kilometers were completed on land belonging to the municipalities of Manatí, Las Tunas, and Majibacoa, of the 93 kilometers involved.

This figure is part of the more than 1,200 kilometers of trails carried out in Cuba on transmission lines with the declared aim of protecting the efficiency of the electricity distribution system.
