The president Díaz-Canel visited the solar park in Manatí

The first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, arrived at the Manatí 2 photovoltaic solar park to begin his visit to Las Tunas, as part of the meetings he holds throughout the country to discuss the work priorities for the year.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- At the site, the Cuban president was interested in local projections to produce electricity from the use of renewable energy sources and praised the development plan, aimed at satisfying demand and contributing to the National Electricity System.

The president learned that around 80 MW are required in the eight municipalities of Las Tunas and that if the strategy designed in the territory is implemented, 381 MW could be generated by taking advantage of the sun and the wind.

Precisely, the Party leader inquired about the investment being carried out in the Herradura 1 wind farm, in the municipality of Jesús Menéndez, whose civil construction is at 90 percent and which already has 22 bases of the 34 planned.

The President was informed about the use of renewable energy sources in Las Tunas

Carlos Arias Sobrino, director of the Electric Company, explained to Díaz-Canel that in the province there are four photovoltaic solar parks - two in the community of Parada, in Puerto Padre - and that, together, they have an installed power of 11 megawatts (MW).

The local manager added that, since their synchronization, these units have allowed saving more than 25,892 tons of diesel fuel, which means that 83,652 tons of carbon dioxide and other polluting gases have been stopped being emitted into the atmosphere.

Finally, the Cuban president learned that 14 areas have been identified and studied for the future construction of other parks, which are included in state and foreign investment projects, and that more than 700 homes have solar panels to the satisfaction of the same number of families residing in isolated áreas throughout the territory.
