Yudith Acosta García, FMC Secretary General in Las Tunas province.

From their daily work within their communities and with the strength to achieve effective integration with the grassroots, the federated women of Las Tunas are renewing their commitments and goals in the heat of the eve of the 65th anniversary of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC, by its Spanish acronym).

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Yudith Acosta García, Secretary-General of the organization in Las Tunas, assured 26 that it is precisely the coordination with the leaders of the blocs and delegations that has set the pace of work for the current calendar and has become a strong pillar for blending the experience of the veterans with the arrival of the new generations.

“Without the link at the grassroots level, there is no FMC, because it is in the neighborhoods where the strength and morale of the organization lie. Our work objectives, future goals, and the most pressing issues to be addressed emerge from the communities. The north is always there, in the real concerns of the people,” said Yudith.

"We call this anniversary 65 for 95, about the birthday of our eternal president, Vilma Espín, and we have organized activities in tribute to these events. The current calendar has been one of great growth and improvement, in keeping with the debts we owe to history.

“On August 22, we will hold the main event in the municipality of Manatí, a territory that was at the forefront of emulation at the provincial level. We will present the 65th anniversary seal to grassroots leaders, personalities, and institutions that have had an impact on the work of the FMC in Las Tunas.”

Acosta García reiterated the organization's commitment to continue advocating against gender violence through national projects that are currently converging in the Balcón del Oriente cubano, precisely because of the high figures in the territory.

“We know that we have a long way to go in this regard,” said the secretary, "but we are immersed in the No Más project, sponsored by the European NGO Cospe, and another project dedicated to strengthening the work of counseling centers dedicated to assisting victims of gender violence.

"To fully realize both opportunities, we have had arduous training sessions, meetings with social workers, the PNR, the Public Prosecutor's Office, public health and education agencies, and many others, seeking multisectoral alliances that will effectively dismantle the patriarchal violence that still prevails in our society.

We are finalizing details because in September, the counseling centers will begin to operate, which will lead to the establishment of a Comprehensive Integrated Center in the territory where women will be able to go to receive comprehensive assistance in the same space, without having to go to other agencies, and to avoid abuse or revictimization. This is a long-standing dream, and we are going to make it a reality."

The women of Las Tunas celebrate their new anniversary, immersed in activities of growth and improvement, with their characteristic vitality. They have set their sights on major projects that can change the face of Las Tunas society with the colors of social equity.
