More than 53 percent of the solutions shared address problems previously identified.

With its recently held Forum, the division in this province of the Cuban Telecommunications Company S.A. (Etecsa in Spanish) marked a 30-year journey that confirms that, despite limitations, the ingenuity of its workers has no expiration date.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The more than 60 presentations were the result of a selection made from a total of 111 submitted at grassroots events, with the participation of 158 workers. The proposals seen in the different spaces of the Luis Urquiza Vocational Pre-University Institute of Exact Sciences (IPVCE in Spanish) came from all seven municipalities in Las Tunas, except Manatí, and included areas such as control and transmission, information technology, energy, the outdoor plant, commercial and transportation, among others, thus positively impacting the company's main areas of activity.

A crucial fact is that more than 53 percent of the solutions shared address problems previously identified in the ETECSA Las Tunas problem bank, which shows that the proposals arise from real needs. However, the Forum leaders' analyses pointed to the need to continue improving in this area, as there is still significant room for increasing that figure.

“Last year, I presented two papers that were relevant to the National Forum. A high-availability solution for the O over B service was one of the most impactful,” said Elio Ávila Rodríguez.

Now, the telematics expert from the Specialized Support Department has brought a high-availability solution for the Wi-Fi interoperability service which, if implemented, would benefit more than 800 navigation sites using this technology throughout the country, as, he explained, "it guarantees the availability of the service via two routes, so that if one fails, the other remains active, in addition to balancing the traffic load."

With 20 years of experience in these forums, Ávila Rodríguez assured that the communications sector “is developing rapidly, and there are constant changes, improvements, new equipment, and services. We still have a long way to go in terms of development and new technologies to apply, such as artificial intelligence,” he said.

The Forum is not only a space for presentations, but also for recognizing and encouraging innovation. Many of these solutions are validated and endorsed by the National Association of Innovators and Rationalizers (ANIR in Spanish), which guarantees formal recognition of authorship and facilitates their widespread use.
