seedbeds are being irrigated in the sowing areas.

Approximately 130 farmers, associated with 39 production bases in Las Tunas, will participate in the 2025-2026 tobacco season. The province plans to sow approximately 200 hectares, but has already contracted 223 in different municipalities.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Yanelys Ramírez León, technical-production director of the Tobacco Collection, Processing, and Rolling Company, reported that the area agreed upon for the upcoming campaign represents an increase compared to the previous, which will allow for the collection of approximately 245 tons of tobacco leaves.

She added that, on this occasion, the TabaCuba Business Group established benefits for producers; for example, a 30 percent incentive in national currency above the harvest for those who sell the product by May.

Ramírez León pointed out that the right to 3.6 percent in foreign currency is also contemplated for those who achieve a 55 percent quality level, and 10 percent in local currency if a yield of 1.4 tons per hectare is achieved.

He emphasized that to achieve good results in the campaign, visits and direct exchanges are being made with local tobacco growers and that planting is expected to be completed before December 31st, for the plantations to complete their second harvest and increase yields.

Currently, in selected areas of Las Tunas, seedbeds are being irrigated, and the agency is expediting the delivery of technological packages and the necessary inputs for various processes, such as pesticides, fertilizers, and fuel.

Also, the recovery of tobacco production in the municipality of Puerto Padre is being promoted by contracting 32 hectares to compensate for the significant deficit in Majibacoa, where several farms will cease to be planted due to a lack of water to ensure crop moisture.

Regarding the irrigation systems for the activity, the official specified that this equipment will arrive in the country between mid-October and November, so existing technology will initially be used, especially for obtaining seedlings.

About the healing houses, coordination was made with the Agroforestry Company to determine the demand for wood for new facilities and those requiring repairs. All that remains is to establish contracts and expedite the application for bank loans.
