Territorial Defense Day held in Omaja, Majibacoa.

The preparation of the people for the possible occurrence of an armed invasion is crucial. To achieve this, several factors must be combined, ranging from practical exercises to ensuring basic services during the crisis period, and systematically undermining the enemy.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- To this end, Territorial Defense Day was held in the community of Omaja, belonging to the municipality of Majibacoa, with the attendance of the president and vice president of the Provincial Defense Council (CPD, in Spanish), Osbel Lorenzo Rodríguez and Yelenis Tornet Menéndez.

The day began with extensive information about the area, which includes the settlements of Las Coloradas, El Tablón, Nigua, and Montería. Omaja has a population of 3,321 inhabitants, as well as schools, health institutions, and production and service centers.

At the Rafael Morell Oppow Nursing Home, the leader spoke with the staff and learned about some measures to protect seniors in exceptional situations and transport them to safe places in the event of an armed attack or other circumstances.

He also visited the local bakery and learned about the alternatives used to produce basic bread despite the country's current electricity shortage. The president of the CPD reflected on food production and how much more can be done to meet the population's demand, for example, using cassava in different dishes.

Incidentally, he said that even though the soil is poor, it is urgent to increase the planting of root crops and other vegetables, as well as the raising of semi-rustic chickens, sheep, and goats, which could stabilize production, relieve the population's hardships, and improve daily life. He emphasized that we must engage in a real battle in this activity, with more actions and participation.

From a practical standpoint, Saturday's exercises and demonstrations included shooting, grenade throwing, and the arming and disarming of rifles to increase the people's combat capacity in the face of a possible military attack.

On the subject, Lorenzo Rodríguez asserted that the day of defense is for preparing and defining how to act. Therefore, he specified, we must try to make the day more like a real war because some things cannot wait until tomorrow. And this is one of the most tense moments of the Revolution.
