The Las Tunas Provincial Meteorological Center (CMP) boasts more than 90 percent accuracy in weather forecasts. This institution is among the country's leading in predicting various atmospheric phenomena and studying the climate.

Las Tunas, Cuba.– This October 1st, the scientific institution celebrates its 33rd anniversary. During this period, its work in agrometeorological information, contribution to the Life Task, and the development of projects on climate change and the environment have stood out, according to Alexey Moreno Borges, deputy technical director.

He explained that the group's main mission is to monitor temperatures, cloud cover, winds, humidity, and other indicators, with which they prepare warnings about possible short, medium, and long-term weather patterns. These warnings are then communicated to the public and authorities through various channels.

Las Tunas Provincial Meteorological Center.The specialist indicated that they are also monitoring the drought, a serious problem in Las Tunas, as the annual average rainfall is 1,038 millimeters, which impacts both the amount of reservoir water and agricultural and livestock activities.

Moreno Borges added that over the past three decades, the CMP has worked in coordination with various organizations, and as a result of this relationship, information spaces such as the user interface platform for climate services for the agricultural sector have emerged.

They also prioritize professional training and vocational guidance, in addition to educating the population, especially in warning of the dangers of thunderstorms, the leading cause of death in Cuba due to natural phenomena.
