History Students' Meeting in the framework of the National History Congress.

The History Students' Meeting took place this Monday as part of the program of the 26th National History Congress, hosted by the University of Las Tunas, with the presence of national and local authorities. The event brought together young people from different Cuban provinces to discuss their academic training, professional integration, and connection with the Union of Cuban Historians (UNHIC).

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The meeting was attended by Jorge Luis Aneiros Alonso, president of the UNHIC and the Congress itself, who explained that these exchanges "allow us to hear firsthand the views of future historians on curricula, access to careers, and their relationship with our organization."

Aneiros recalled that the first meeting of this type was held in 1999 during the 15th edition of the Congress, although it was interrupted for more than a decade. “Since the 2022 meeting, in Pinar del Río, we have revived this initiative, and today students must present an approved paper to participate, which also adds academic value to their research,” he explained.

Among the attendees was Juana Arasay Guerra Ruiz, a student of Marxism-Leninism and History from Las Tunas, who positively appreciated the opportunity to “have their own voice to speak about what concerns and excites them within the curriculum, in the presence of authorities such as the rector of the University of Las Tunas.”

Laudelin Barrera Machado, from Holguín, spoke about the iconography of Fidel Castro. “This Congress is a national space where we exchange experiences, showcase our scientific advances, and contribute fresh perspectives on history,” she noted. Barrera highlighted the evolution of the event since 2022, when students began to have the right to present papers on equal terms with professors and researchers.

Wendy Guillén HidalgoFor her part, Wendy Guillén Hidalgo, another delegate, emphasized the importance of open debate: “Here we have the freedom to express our ideas and innovations. It's not the same as what we always hear from an academic with many years of experience: we must also make room for young perspectives.”

The meeting was attended by the national president of the Federation of University Students (FEU), representatives from the Ministry of Higher Education, and student leaders. Delegations from Guantánamo, Santiago de Cuba, Holguín, Camagüey, Cienfuegos, and Havana, among other provinces, participated.

As a result, it was agreed to continue promoting spaces for youth participation that consolidate a generational change in the discipline.
