CUPET workers prepare the railway for the arrival of fuel.

Hurricane Melissa's passage through eastern Cuba is a fact. The workers of the Las Tunas Territorial Fuel Marketing Division (CUPET) Base Business Unit (UEB, in Spanish), following the instructions of the Provincial Defense Council (CDP), were commissioned to ensure fuel distribution to priority centers.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- José Luis Mora, general director of CUPET, told 26 that the first step was to secure liquefied petroleum gas for evacuation centers, where food preparation must be guaranteed for the people sheltered.

"Next, we continue with health centers, like hospitals and polyclinics. Then, with the Cuban Telecommunications Company S.A. (ETECSA), for the importance of keeping the population informed during this stage. And, also, food processing centers and bakeries."

The director stated that a significant amount of the crude oil needed to supply the generators arrived in the province on Tuesday morning.

"Distribution will begin so that, once the meteorological event passes, electricity can begin to be provided across the so-called generating islands, following the disconnection of the eastern region from the National Electricity System."

Together with the president and vice president of the CDP, CUPET established priorities for fuel distribution, including water pumping stations in this schedule.
