While Melissa's winds battered the eastern region, most of the population sought shelter. Amidst the chaos, a sound distinct from the storm's roar could be heard in Las Tunas; the engines of taxis and combustion tricycles became, in that moment of mayhem, a symbol of hope and humanity.
Las Tunas, Cuba.– The workers of the Las Tunas Taxi Agency once again offered a lesson of practical solidarity, the kind that isn't announced, but rather acted upon. They didn't just wait for the storm to arrive; on the contrary, they ventured into the night and adversity to lend a hand to those who needed it most.
In a silent but eloquent operation, several vehicles transported hemodialysis patients and healthcare workers and remained at evacuation centers.
But that wasn't enough for them; they mobilized in anticipation of the arrival of the evacuated people from Granma province. It wasn't a paid service. It was a mission. Their objective was clear: to ensure the safe transport of these people to the pre-prepared protection centers.

This selfless act transcends simple aid and speaks of a united community. Not only did they not hesitate to fulfill their social purpose, but they also donated essential items to the victims for their stay in the shelters.
They also contributed to the celebration of María Elena's 15th birthday, a girl from the Miradero community in Río Cauto, Granma; they brought her gifts and provided their vehicles for transportation throughout the preparation process.
The Las Tunas Taxi Agency once again demonstrated that its greatest asset is its people, who know empathy and solidarity. They are heroes in yellow who don't wear capes, but rather stay behind the wheel as long as necessary without looking at the time or complaining about the weather.
