Donation from Las Tunas Post Office workers to their Granma colleagues.

Osnay Miguel Colina Rodríguez, president of the Organizing Committee of the 22nd Congress of the Cuban Workers' Federation (CTC in Spanish), praised the humanism, solidarity, and selflessness of the Cuban labor movement demonstrated by the aid they are providing to the victims in eastern Cuba following the devastating passage of Hurricane Melissa on October 29th.

This account is provided by Ana Ivis García Rodríguez, secretary general of the Provincial Bureau of the Union of Communications, Electronics, and Information Technology Workers in Las Tunas, who witnessed the exchange between the leader and the staff of the Granma Post Office and several of their colleagues from Las Tunas.

She recounts that Colina Rodríguez praised the workers' quick, timely response, guided by the administrative and union leadership, to the CTC call to help those affected in this region severely impacted by the storm, and urged them to continue promoting such attitudes.

The meeting took place at the organization’s headquarters in Bayamo, where Vicente García's land children arrived with a generous offering that partially alleviates the pain of those who suffered the impact of the powerful hurricane.

"From our ministry, the workers at this organization were the most affected, as the families of 12 of them lost all or almost all of their belongings. That's why we agreed to bring them the donation to support their efforts to recover from the damage suffered," explains Ana Ivis.

“The members who received the aid were grateful for the gesture,” says Ana Ivis, describing it as a display of empathy and humanism. “The suitcase, filled with various personal and collective items, clothing and shoes for men, women, and children, and other goods… wasn’t put together with what they had to spare. The members shared what they had,” the young union leader emphasizes.

“This union has always been characterized by coming to the aid of our people and anyone in need, whatever the situation,” she remarks, mentioning the work carried out by ETECSA brigades from all provinces who unconditionally came to help repair telecommunications networks and their infrastructure. We communicators will continue to do so with the same dedication wherever needed,” she concludes, aware of the spirit that drives them.
