The private passenger carriers that operate in the eastern Cuban city of Las Tunas resumed their operations

The private passenger carriers that operate in the eastern Cuban city of Las Tunas resumed their operations on regular routes since October 6.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Luis Enrique Arias Peña, director of the Passenger Transport and General Cargo Company (CARDINAL) reported that private porters of trucks, vans, and cars; as well as cars, pedicabs, and motorcycle taxis, can return to their work. Although, he insisted, only within the urban perimeter of the city.

The manager explained that while motorcycle taxis and pedicabs are allowed to occupy all their capacities, the other transportation means will limit their capacity to 75 percent; hygienic guidelines such as the mandatory use of the facemask and the disinfection of hands and surfaces are still in force, he stressed.

The decision, approved by the Temporary Working Group for the prevention and control of the COVID-19 in the province, responds to the improvement of the epidemiological situation in the capital city. This service had to be paralyzed in the middle of the year when infections for the new coronavirus rose. However, it continues to be paralyzed in the other municipalities, where the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 has increased since August.

The nation's fuel deficit prevents the return of the state passenger service. The limited available fuel is reserved for tasks related to the confrontation of the pandemic and urgent tasks of the economy, such as the distribution of the basic food basket. Likewise, to ensure the transfers of students, which will be required with the resumption of the face-to-face activities for the twelfth grade of Pre-university and its equivalents in Technical and Professional Education and Pedagogical Schools, scheduled for next October 11.
