The teaching coverage in this eastern province reaches 97.7 percent, a favorable average, well above the national rate, when only some days are missing for the start of the 2018-2019 school year.

Some 636 educational centers will open next September 3rd, which require a staff of 10,081 teachers and professors. According to the statements of Nilser Piñeda Cruz, provincial director of Education, 9,851 places are covered and the remaining will be filled with students in fourth and fifth year of their respective careers, hired teachers, university students involved in the Educando por Amor task (Teaching for Love), among other alternatives.
In a preparatory meeting for the new academic calendar, Piñeda Cruz said that the team of pedagogical assistants for nursery schools is complete, as well as those of cadres, officials and directors.
The teacher's staff of primary schools is also complete, to which the graduations of the pedagogical training schools of the territory, both middle and higher levels, notably contributed.
Las Tunas has taken significant steps in terms of teaching coverage in the last two years; a sample of that is that 49 elementary schools have two teachers for each group. More than 500 educators will serve as pioneers' guides in high school. 90 percent of them will only taught classes to one or two groups, which will allow a better attention to the students' individualities.
The Director also noted that 98 percent of pre-university teachers have a degree and all groups of twelfth grade have a teacher for each of the three subjects that apply entrance exams to Higher Education; which is related to the priority given to that important process.
