Café Vidal, a space of the Guillermo Vidal National Narrative Conference

Maritza Batista reads an excerpt from Matarile, the famous novel by Guillermo Vidal. People laugh at the witticisms of the text. The writer perpetuates himself in memory. He is immortalized by his way of writing and the areas of reality touched with authenticity and transparency. He comes back to us through his work, with more intensity these days, when the National Day of Narrative that bears his name takes place.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Café Vidal is one of the spaces of the program. From the Bonsai Courtyard, at the headquarters of the Provincial Committee of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC, in Spanish), many creators gather to honor the man who revolutionized the Cuban narrative of the 20th century.

Writers Xiomara Maura, Juan José Rodríguez, Antonio Gutiérrez, Carlos Esquivel, and Raúl Leyva converged there along with singer-songwriter Iraida Williams, who spiced up the moment with stories, scenes from novels, and songs.

"Guillermo Vidal is a writer of all times. The fact that a Day is being held in his honor is very important. He contributed to us the theme and the essence. Many have followed his literary route. To pay tribute to him is to pay tribute to the narrative in all its splendor,” Odalys Leyva Rosabal, the president of the writers' branch of the Provincial Committee of UNEAC, told 26.

During the first day of the event, the meeting “Donde todos nos vean” was also held, with the participation of Solángel Uña, widow of the author of “Confabulación de la araña”, at the Pepito Tey campus of the University of Las Tunas. The Narrative and Marginality panel also took place at the headquarters of the artistic vanguard, with the participation of writers Carlos Esquivel, Odalys Leyva, Xiomara Maura, and Yeinier Aguilera.
