The Soul Flowers poetry event will take place between 22 and 25 August.
 

From the 9th to the 25th of this month, the Provincial Committee of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC by its acronym in Spanish) is holding a series of celebrations in honor of the 62nd anniversary of this institution, founded on 22 August 1961, with the national poet Nicolás Guillén as its first president.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The artistic avant-garde has dedicated its August activities to the feast day, with the development of a multiplicity of actions covering the various manifestations of art. The Tímeles gathering, promoted by the Performing Arts branch, for example, focused on the theatrical heritage, with the participation of actresses Clotilde Aguillón, Emelia González, Verónica Hinojosa, and Argentina Vázquez, protagonists of the splendid years of the Los Zahoríes Puppeteer Company.

Likewise, the critical space Alrededor del Aforo, discussed the 50 years of stage professionalism in Las Tunas, with emphasis on the main awards obtained in that period. Tarde de Concierto, meanwhile, paid tribute to the Chamber Orchestra of the province, which is about to celebrate its first decade of existence. Instrumentalists, teachers, and students of the El Cucalambé professional art school joined the proposal.

Activities such as the Puertas adentro gathering, the tertulia Desde el verso a la Estrella, and the space Café Palabras have been added to the celebrations. The latter, under the direction of the actress Leonor Pérez Hinojosa, had Abel Guelmes Roblejo as a guest writer, an opportunity to get to know his work and also the work he carries out as a cultural promoter.

The inauguration this Thursday (at the Provincial Committee of the UNEAC) of the exhibition Lluvias de ayer y hoy, by the artist Jarol Rodríguez Morales, is also part of the celebrations. Meanwhile, among the invitations planned for the near future is the Flores del Alma (Soul Flowers) event, sponsored by the Writers' Branch, which will take place between 22 and 25 August.

According to the Facebook profile of Las Tunas UNEAC, this last event will be attended by Mariela Pérez Castro, writer, broadcaster, and scriptwriter from Camagüey, who will give a workshop entitled "La pasión por la poesía" (Passion for Poetry). In general, various initiatives pay tribute to the founding of an institution that is an expression of the highest spiritual and artistic values of the nation.
