Las Tunas, Cuba.- Lázaro Estenoz Cosme, promoter of the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB for its Spanish acronym), recognized the sustained work of the health personnel that makes this province one of the most outstanding in the application of the product in the country.
"From 2014 to date, more than 3,300 people have been treated in Las Tunas, with results that prove the effectiveness of our medicine and allow reducing the number of amputations. This responds to the will and unity of the work team in the municipalities."
"However, the statistics reflect a decrease in the number of people assisted with respect to previous years. For this reason, we suggest resuming the screening in Primary Health Care because on that depends the early detection of lesions, which avoid complications."
The polyclinics Francisco Camaño from "Colombia"; Guillermo Tejas and Aquiles Espinosa, from the head municipality; 7 de Noviembre, from Majibacoa; Rafael Izquierdo, from Puerto Padre; and 14 de Junio, from Jobabo are ahead of the list in the inclusion of patients.
Audiovisual presentations of the most innovative products of the CIGB and experiences of some patients favored with the Heberprot-P were screened here as part of the Scientific Conference. In addition, several professionals shared knowledge about the application and impact of the drug in local medical units.
Estenoz called the population to take care of the lower limbs and go to the health centers from the earliest stages. The potential to be included this year rises to 646 cases, taking into account the rate of inhabitants with diabetes mellitus, who are at risk of developing DFU at some point in their lives.
The Heberprot-P is currently registered in 25 countries; and more than 79,840 Cubans have received its benefits.
