Belgian solidarity activists visit Las Tunas

Short and emotional was the stay in this eastern Cuban province of three Belgian activists of solidarity with Cuba, who left a fraternal greeting, and visited the local Green Medicine Pharmacy, whose name pays tribute to one of their compatriots, a martyr of the struggle for the freedom of the peoples of Central America.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Wim Leysems, together with Willem and Rosa De Wite, make up the Coordinator for the Lifting of the United States Blockade against Cuba in the European nation. This platform brings together 40 organizations such as unions, associations, and non-governmental groups, with the common purpose of denouncing the economic, commercial, and financial siege of Washington that prevents the normal development of this Antillean Archipelago, explained Wim Leysems, its Secretary.

"During our visit, he said, we have heard multiple testimonies that, even more than before, encourage us to move forward in the fight against the blockade. Let the people of Cuba know that you have many friends in Belgium."

The Green Medicine Pharmacy in this city is named after Michel De Wite. The tour of that center was a particularly emotional moment for Willem and Rosa De Wite, brothers of the guerrilla doctor, who fell in combat in the jungles of El Salvador in the 1980s. "We will always be grateful that this pharmacy is named after him," he said.
