Las Tunas, Cuba.- The current location of the on-duty rest rooms hinders the direct access from the Emergencies to the Intensive Care Unit. That is why its relocation will allow the transit of the medical staff through that area.
Aimar González Peña, head of the Department of Repair and Maintenance, Investments and Engineer Services of the hospital, explained to 26Digital that they have a financing fund of 150,000 pesos. The project includes the placement of 24 beds in six rooms of four capabilities.
"They will also have a pantry and access to the Internet, among other facilities. It is intended to do an efficient and long-lasting job, so that our physicians can rest and thus offer better care."
The work - agreed with the Ministry of Construction in the province - is in process of technical preparation and the start-up is scheduled later this month.
In addition to this investment, the center has a budget of 100,000 pesos for the repair and maintenance program, which prioritizes the surgical unit, damaged by functional problems due to its many years of exploitation; but despite that, the plan of surgeries is fulfilled, thanks to the commitment of its staff.
"We are going to give a solution to the waterproofing for the roof and we will also work in the Sterilization area, vital area for all medical procedures."
González said that the greatest deterioration in hospitalization wards is associated with hydro-sanitary networks. "The purpose is to rehabilitate them little by little. We started working on the first two cubicles, which should be finished in May. "
"Then the repair actions will continue progressively in the adjoining rooms so will not diminish the hospitalization capacity." The inhabitants of Las Tunas have many expectations with the announced construction of the Mother and Child Hospital and there is the will to materialize that idea. However, before starting the work, it is a priority to restore the current Pediatric, according to modern requirements.
In this regard, González commented that "one of the buildings, which has been paralyzed since the 90s of the last century, will be adapted to the interests of the Mother and Child Hospital, taking into account that this was not its initial conception." It constitutes a challenge, but our people need to have a health center of that type with the highest standards. "
