The Urban, Suburban and Family Agriculture is among the main topics of the agenda in any analysis about food production in Las Tunas, because there is no other structure - at least for now - that can replace it in terms of production of fresh vegetables and condiments.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- This productive formula, with more than 300 hectares under exploitation and over 10,000 workers, supplements the diet of Las Tunas inhabitants with tens of thousands of tons of vegetables per year, a contribution worthy of praise, even when it does not satisfy the demand of the population.
The entity is projected here with encouraging prospects for the collection and delivery - in the near future - of the 10 pounds of food per inhabitant established in the strategic Municipal Self-Supply Program, however much remains to be done.
The appreciation is confirmed by the positive and rising results in the midst of a process of visible recovery of the latest onslaughts of climate, as recognized the National Group of Urban, Suburban and Family Agriculture after inspecting the territory.
"To our satisfaction we observe progress and a much more cohesive work, which places Las Tunas third in the country, only advantaged by Santiago de Cuba and Sancti Spíritus," said Elizabeth Peña Turruelles, head of the Group, when announced the final evaluation.
Farms, organisms and companies, agricultural polytechnic institutes, organoponics, vegetable gardens , centers for the reproduction of entomophages, patios, among other units, were inspected, where the visitors verified integral achievements much superiors to those obtained in their previous checking, when the Eastern Balcony had to settle for one of the last positions in the country.
Puerto Padre was distinguished with the first provincial seat, followed by "Colombia" and "Amancio, although the eight municipalities deserved the grade of Good.
After this evaluation, the different groups must concentrate their efforts on the solution of the five recommendations left by the National Group; so that they can progress steadily in production, until comply with their contribution to the self-supply of agricultural assortments.
