Las Tunas, Cuba.- Carlos Betancourt Almaguer, director of the Company of Collection, Benefit and Twisted of Tobacco in the territory, said that this year some 500 producers will participate, and it is expected to obtain more than 1,300 tons.
Most of the 1,552 hectares contracted will be seed at sun in stick for its easy adaptation to solar radiation and the limited availability of water. The harvest will be destined to the manufacture of cigars for its commercialization in the domestic market.
20 hectares of covered tobacco will be grown. The layer obtained will be used in the twisted for export, a new delivery modality.
The producers and local specialists intend to maintain the tendency to increase the yields of the last years; and they carried out training activities on subjects such as nurseries, cultivation technologies and production of root ball seedlings to that end.
The construction of more than 400 tobacco houses is another of the successes of this season, in which they expect building 17 houses of seedlings for production, of which seven are already finished.
The fertilizer, phytosanitary protection and biological means are guaranteed for this season, which unites the efforts of all the municipalities of the province with the exception of "Amancio."
