Food production is a priority.

Food production is emerging as the main program of the Directorate of Strategic Management of Territorial Development in Las Tunas for 2023, with some 27 projects aimed at increasing it in all municipalities of this eastern province.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- "Jesús Menéndez," in the north, is one of the territories prioritized with the creation of new mini-industries for the production of canned fruits and vegetables and a new network for the production of cheese from goat's milk, processes that benefit from the arrival of technological refrigeration equipment, as part of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), funded through the Articulated Platform for Integral Territorial Development.

In exclusive statements to the Cuban News Agency, Idania Herrera Mayo, director of Territorial Development, said that on a par with "Jesus Menendez" is also Jobabo, with the production, processing, and marketing of small livestock meat from a contractual relationship, given what is stipulated in Decree 33 of 2021, and for which the arrival of computer equipment, refrigerators, and other items to improve infrastructure conditions is expected.

In general, we are immersed in more than 60 projects at the provincial level with a socio-cultural, institutional, environmental, and productive economic character, of which 14 stand out that arose this year and that respond to the current needs of Las Tunas’ economy, highlighted the directive.

Iraslis Santiesteban Ortega, head of the Strategic Management Department, added that within the head municipality, there are potentialities that this year will be reflected in the transformation of the Liberation canning factory, into a mini-industry for the production of buffalo cheese, a mini-plant for the production of natural cement and in the strengthening of learning for students preparing for adult life, the latter in the Camilo Cienfuegos School of Special Education.

Management for territorial development seeks to create opportunities for innovative enterprises with a marked impact on the economy of each of the communities, based on the essential characteristics of the territories. It is not only aimed at designing new projects but also at training human resources and modernizing the various aspects of the local economy, said Santiesteban Ortega.

In Las Tunas, work is being done on the preparation and discovery of possible financing channels, guided by the Government as an integral and multidirectional process that allows the connection of potentialities with the country's strategy.
