The Juan Sáez dam in the municipality of Jesús Menéndez is at 20 percent of its capacity.

The province of Las Tunas is entering the so-called dry period, which will last until April 30, 2023, with only 37 percent of the total storage capacity of its reservoirs.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Until November 27, the reservoirs managed by the Hydraulic Exploitation Company contained 128.6 million cubic meters of water of the 350.9 they can store.

Lizabeth Marrero Doimeadiós, technical director at the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources in the province, reported that the dams to supply the population are in a favorable situation, except for the Juan Sáez, in the municipality of Jesús Menéndez, which is at 20 percent -with 178 days-coverage.

El Rincón, at 98 filling percent, and Cayojo, 70, guarantee the supply for several months to the inhabitants of the provincial capital.

However, the technical director of the Hydraulic Exploitation Company stressed the need to make rational use of this vital resource, considering that the period of less rain in the country has just begun and Las Tunas is the province with the lowest rainfall average per year.

To this, it is added that drought has become more recurrent and prolonged. She recalled that of the optimal use of the available water depends not only on materializing supply plans for the population but also the compliance with the production processes of industries and other consumers.
