Works were reopened in Las Tunas capital in celebration of May Day, during a tour organized on Wednesday with the territory's top political and government authorities.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- The first stop was the Vicente García Junior High School, in which approximately six million pesos have been invested and has never before, since its first school year, received an investment of this magnitude.
The before-and-after photos, as well as the opinions of teachers and students, were emphatic regarding the value of the work, which included painting, repairs to classrooms and other facilities, and work on the perimeter fence and other areas.
Afterward, the group went to the sports area of the Luis Urquiza Jorge Vocational Pre-University Institute of Exact Sciences (IPVCE). There, the students inaugurated a Sports Festival in honor of the working class, as soon as the act celebrating the changes in the área concluded, which now has well-defined spaces and demands greater care and attention.
Later, on the city's main street, the El Dorado cafeteria opened its doors. It belongs to the local Fishing Company and boasts a distinctly comfortable atmosphere.
The first secretary of the Cuban Communist Party in the province, Osbel Lorenzo Rodríguez, called for perseverance in the culture of attention to detail and said that such experiences must be sustainable, because not only can the private sector offer pleasant and competitive venues, but the state sector is equally called to do so.
They explained the investment that brought the establishment to life and also told him that Pescatun has the necessary resources to make it bearable over time, relying on the fish that can be sourced from both the north and south of Las Tunas.
Finally, the group stopped at the Raúl Gómez García Hall, home of the Los Zahoríes puppet theater, the oldest performing group in Las Tunas. A wise investment has been made there, and now, with the vital contribution of two private sector contractors, it boasts a quality stage, state-of-the-art dressing rooms, and the actors' restroom, functional lighting, and touch-up paint on the front and lobby.
It was pleasing to hear the puppet theater group say they are preparing for a prompt opening and that they have already performed for schools and other groups, especially since, for more than seven years, mostly due to the building conditions, puppet shows have not been possible in Las Tunas.
That situation, in addition to the adverse economic climate we are currently experiencing, has been a fundamental cause of the exodus of performing artists. For this reason, the training process is focused on interested young people: art enthusiasts and instructors, among others.
Osbel Lorenzo spoke with everyone and said that this is just one step in the daily work, in which the vision is to complete quality works before embarking on new paths.
