How many of us get lost among the “invisible threads” that bring a musical staff to life? How many of us have ever wiped away tears while watching a performer who moved us, seemingly at one with a violin, a saxophone, a piano, or a guitar...? The sounds of the concert hall, though unknown to many, are there to remind us that there are timeless works and artists, and that there are still many valuable compositions waiting to be discovered.

These days, Las Tunas is celebrating another anniversary, and our region is decked out to host discussions, gatherings, exhibitions, and various presentations. It is time to embrace the pride of this land, to look more deeply into its traditions, and to admire the courage of beloved sons like Vicente García—something that neither the hardships nor the complexities we face can take away from us, because it is an inseparable part of our very essence. And, amid an extensive program of activities, is the Provincial Concert Series, which will culminate on Friday and honor —in addition to the city— Maestro Jesús Ortega and the unforgettable Juan Francisco Borges, who was the director of the Primer Espacio jazz group.

Thus, musicians and concert ensembles share their melodies at various venues —from Vicente García Park at the event’s opening on  September 23 to several cultural institutions. The Provincial Concert Band, recognized by experts in the field as one of the best of its kind in the country, is among the groups enriching the festivities, and, according to the event program, its municipal counterparts will also headline concerts in their respective areas.

The lineup also includes concert musicians such as Félix Ramos, Argibaldo Acebo, and Alexander Mayo, as well as the Sultasto Quartet, the Isaac Nicola Guitar Orchestra, the Euterpe Professional Choir, the Melodías Trombone Quartet, and the Symphony and Chamber Orchestras. Furthermore, the program encourages the participation of arts education, provides a forum for reflection on the evolution and impact of concert music in the province, and, in general, celebrates the spirit of the event through presentations and symbolic messages.

In a town like ours, heir to the legacy of figures such as Cristino Márquez and Alma Rodríguez, where we nostalgically recall the indispensable work of the Circle of Friends of Concert Music and the vibrancy that once characterized our city in this regard, fostering the values that set us apart in this musical realm becomes not only a necessity for artists and audiences alike, but also a wise way to revitalize the city and restore much of its joy and charm. This, of course, extends beyond a single date; celebrations come and go, but culture endures.
