A delegation of legislators on a working visit to Las Tunas province toured the municipality of Majibacoa to assess the status of the economic and social transformations being implemented in that area.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Carlos Rafael Fuentes León, president of the Commission on Local Organs of People’s Power, held a discussion with local officials and members of the Municipal Administration Council, during which he addressed the role these structures play amid the current economic and social situation facing the country.

As part of the agenda, the parliamentarian visited several communities where he was able to witness the results of the grassroots initiative “Mi Barrio por la Patria” (My Neighborhood for the Homeland), a program that seeks to strengthen citizen participation and address local issues from the ground up.

Fuentes León also spoke with high school students to learn firsthand about the concerns and expectations of the younger generations regarding the development of the municipality and the country.

The visit included a tour of the nursing home located in the community of Las Parras, where the chairman of the Commission on Local Organs of People’s Power spoke with the institution’s staff and residents, inquiring about their living conditions and the care they receive.

The deputy also met with representatives of local projects, who shared their experiences and the progress made in community development.

The visit to Majibacoa is part of the Cuban Parliament’s working procedures, which periodically conduct tours of the provinces to assess compliance with approved policies and the actual impact of these changes on the lives of the population.

The tour made it possible to verify the progress achieved in the region and identify remaining challenges to continue strengthening economic and social development.
