This Friday, the positive cases 21 and 22 for SARS-CoV-2 were reported in the eastern Cuban province of Las Tunas; therefore, the incidence rate of the COVID-19 during the last 15 days is now 0.93 for 100 thousand inhabitants.

as Tunas, Cuba.- They are a 42-year-old citizen and her 16-year-old daughter, residents in the municipality of Las Tunas, in the Health area of the Gustavo Aldereguía polyclinic. In this regard, Dr. Diego Álvarez Dopazo, director of the Provincial Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology (CPHEM), specified that both are contacts of the patient that was reported on August 9.

They, said Álvarez Dopazo, were admitted to an isolation center on the days indicated in the protocols, at the end of which the real-time PCR was performed, the result of which was negative. However, two days later, being at home under close epidemiological surveillance, as indicated by the current procedures, they manifested symptoms, being re-admitted to the center designed for suspected cases. There, another sample was taken for PCR, which was positive.

The fact that these patients have tested negative five days after being isolated and that on the eighth day they manifested symptoms and then turn out positive is something perfectly possible, the specialist emphasized.

Immediately, the head of the CPHEM assured, the rapid response teams of the Health area, the municipal Hygiene unit and the personnel of the center under his command were mobilized, isolating a total of 25 contacts so far.

In the last 15 days, there have already been five confirmed patients with COVID-19 in the province, contacts of previously confirmed cases. Another five inhabitants of this eastern territory were also diagnosed with the disease during the current month, but their source of infection was abroad.

At the national level, a total of 17 cases were reported, 12 Cubans and five foreigners, bringing the total number of diagnosed to 3,582. For the second consecutive day the country exceeded 5,000 real-time PCR carried out in 24 hours.
