Women's field hockey tournament, in the Dominican Republic

With a goal scored by Yunia Milanés, from Las Tunas, the Cuban squad tied today 2-2 against Mexico on the first date of the women's field hockey tournament; the Dominican city of Santo Domingo, as a sub-site of the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023 hosts the event.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- In the reissue of the Barranquilla 2018 final, the Cuban team was moments away from repeating the victory of that time over the Mexicans. A goal on the horn by Sofía Pérez, in the 60th minute of play, allowed Mexico to equal the game.

Cuba had opened the scoring through Milanés, from Las Tunas. The stellar attacker, now based in the city of Camagüey, put her team ahead in fraction 12 with a good low shot. The Mexicans tied at the height of the third period when Dayana Cuevas scored from a penalty corner.

Starting the third segment and again in a continuous play, Sheila Darias (47'), from Sancti Spíritus, put the squad from the Greater of the Antilles ahead, until at the last breath equality was reached for the current regional runners-up.

In the demanding match, held at the Parque del Este (Eastern Park) in the capital of Quisqueya, Sunailys Nikle, also from Las Tunas, was one of the starters, while Alexyane Ramírez was in the bench. Nikle, along with Yunia Milanés, and Yuraima Vera, aspire to get their third gold medal in these events.
