René Pérez Gallego, First Secretary of the PCC in Las Tunas.

The member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and first secretary of Las Tunas, Manuel René Pérez Gallego, acknowledged the extraordinary result of the team Los Leñadores (Las Tunas Lumberjacks), champions of the 62nd Cuban National Baseball Series.

Las Tunas.- In the middle of the Julio Antonio Mella Stadium, home of the red-and-green team, awaiting their triumphant arrival, Pérez Gallego praised the role of mentor Abeysi Pantoja and his coaching staff, who rightly knew how to guide the players.

"It is important to highlight the rigor in training, the discipline that prevails in the team, the unity and the courage with which they faced each game, which are also fruits of the teachings of the management team.

"To the athletes, the embrace and recognition, they have shown strength and desire to play; they have combined youth and experience and, of course, the role of the pitching staff was exceptional; above all, the joy of each game and the fight for victory."

Pérez Gallego also recognized the unconditional support of the people of Las Tunas, who accompanied the team at all times and were the inspiring spark that allowed us to have the joy of being champions for the second time in the history of the National Series. He also congratulated each of the teams that make it possible for baseball to continue to grow.

The Leñadores de Las Tunas were the best in the 62nd Cuban National Baseball Series; their performance allowed them to win 20 of the last 21 games played in "their forest", the Julio Antonio Mella Stadium. In the postseason, they recorded 12 wins and only two losses, with sweeps of Ciego de Ávila (quarterfinals) and Industriales (final).
