Las Tunas fell 2-5 to Camagüey on Sunday, effectively losing any chance of qualifying from Group C for the second round of the men's National Indoor Soccer League.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- Las Tunas began the sixth round, played at the Giraldo Córdova Cardín Hall in Ciego de Ávila, just two points behind the leaders from Camagüey. Having edged Ciego de Ávila in the home game, they only needed a win to top their qualifying group and secure one of the two spots up for grabs. In the first half of Sunday's match, they managed to tie the standings after trailing by two goals; however, in the second half, the Camagüey team scored three times.
Lizardo Pérez's team improved significantly in this qualifying segment held in Ciego de Ávila, achieving two wins and suffering only one loss, good for six points. However, their poor performance in the matches played in Sancti Spíritus weighed heavily on their performance, where they earned just one point after two losses and a draw.
Camagüey and Ciego de Ávila advanced from Group C to the next round, after the reigning national champions defeated Sancti Spíritus 3-2. These teams will now join Santiago de Cuba and Holguín, the top two places in Group D, to seek the qualifiers for the semifinals in the second round. In the other half of the tournament, Industriales, Pinar del Río, Cienfuegos, and Villa Clara will fight for a place in the medal race.
