
Zaydamis Márquez Cordoví, a cyclist from Puerto Padre, will represent Cuba at the Summer Olympic Games for the Deaf, scheduled to take place in Tokyo, Japan, from November 15 to 26. According to a Facebook post by journalist Orlando Cruz Vázquez, she will be accompanied by Ramón Acosta, also from Las Tunas, as her head coach.
Las Tunas, Cuba.– The news of her participation in the 2025 Deaflympics fills with pride the land of triple Olympic and world champion Teófilo Stevenson Lawrence. The region has also been enjoying the feat of javelin thrower Ever René Castro Martínez, continental record holder and winner of five gold medals in multiple events, for more than two years.
Zaydamis Márquez Cordoví is no stranger to international competitions for deaf athletes. In May 2022, she competed in the Deaflympics in Caxias do Sul, Brazil, where she achieved a commendable sixth place in the individual cycling time trial.
In addition to her cycling achievements, Márquez Cordoví has won silver medals in the 100 and 200-meter events, as well as a bronze medal in the long jump at the National Championships.
Her consistency and dedication earned her recognition as one of the top athletes in the municipality of Puerto Padre since 2019.
Zaydamis Márquez's goal at Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics is to surpass her previous performance in Brazil and bring laurels to Puerto Padre, Las Tunas, and Cuba.
