2025 Sports Awards Gala in Las Tunas

The sports movement in this eastern Cuban province paid tribute to its best athletes in 2025 with its traditional Sports Awards Gala, an event that brought together athletes, coaches, and activists on Saturday to recognize the leading figures of the year. The tribute was marked by the enthusiasm and pride of a region that has excellent representatives in the national sports arena.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Among the individual awards, Yander Luis Herrera Machín was chosen as the best male athlete in individual sports, while Elaimis García Ramos received the female award in the same category.

In the field of team sports, the awards went to Yosvani Alarcón Tardío and Rosangela Jardines Castillo. The title of Rookie of the Year went to Dairon Michel Suárez, a promising youngster who is beginning to make his mark on the sports scene in Las Tunas.

The Los Leñadores baseball team was honored as the most outstanding team of the year, reaffirming the strength of the most prominent team sport: baseball. In the individual sphere, cycling took the honors as the most relevant discipline, with performances that left their mark on the season.

The list of the 10 most outstanding athletes of 2025 included names such as Roberto Suliban Baldoquín Martínez, Keniel Ferraz Pérez, Alberto Pablo Civil Hidalgo, Yordanis Alarcón Tardío, Aldo Castel Cabrera, Ricardo Leandro Polo Román, Diana Leyva Dinza, Reynaldo Espinoza Cola, Eliannis Celia Olivera Pérez, and Eliander Bravo Velásquez.

The event of the year was the celebration in Las Tunas of the main activities for Physical Culture and Sports Day, an event that brought together thousands of people and reaffirmed the importance of sports as part of the province's cultural identity.

Special awards were also presented. Claudia Basilia Tarín Alarcón was honored as an outstanding athlete under contract, while Ever René Castro Martínez and Zaidamis del Carmen Márquez Cordovi received awards as the most outstanding para-athletes. Aarón Arturo Marrero Escocia was recognized as the outstanding para-athlete of the year.

The efforts of teachers and activists were also recognized at the gala. Yolexys Merino Avilés was awarded best physical education teacher, Alina Acanda Cruz best physical activity teacher, and Leodan Salgado Rondón best recreation teacher. Damichel Santana Arnedo was recognized as best activist, Rafael Torres Álvarez as best national referee, and Abeysi Pantoja Díaz as most outstanding sports teacher.

In the youth category, Yander Luis Herrera Machín was named most outstanding male athlete, and Marian Yanet López Guisao was named best female athlete. The 10 most outstanding youth of the year were Luis Javier Sánchez Lozada, Yohana Hernández Ramos, Elaimis García Ramos, Yailen Díaz Pérez, Dairon Michel Suárez, Luis Adrián Chávez, Héctor Salina Vases, Moisés Torres Puig, Zulema Perdomo, and Adianet Samela López Santiesteban.

The Las Tunas sports gala in 2025 was a moment of celebration and recognition, highlighting the talent, discipline, and commitment of those who make sport a source of pride for the Balcón del Oriente Cubano (Cuban Eastern Balcony).
