Yosvani Alarcón

One of the most experienced players of those who will be in the Florida Pre-Olympic tournament is the catcher from Las Tunas, Yosvani Alarcón, who assured that they will give themselves the maximum in each game to seek the ticket to Tokyo.

Havana, Cuba.- Ariel Martínez's injury to one of his hands, when he was playing in the Japanese League, has cast doubt on his presence with the Cuban team in the United States, and suggests that Yosvani will once again have the responsibility of wearing the harness.

Ramón Benítez, from Matanzas, is in charge of preparing this area, which has extensive experience in preparing “the masks” in the different national preselections. Yosvani expressed: “With him, the preparations are always good since he is a very successful teacher and is quite demanding in training. Both, I and the other players are happy with the work we are doing.”

Despite results, which have not been positive in the confrontation games with the selection that goes to the Caribbean Cup, in Curaçao, Alarcón perceives a good mood in the group. “You have been able to see it; the relationship between all the areas is very good. Some of us have been together for several years; I think, we have had more time to prepare this time, and the result has to come out.”

Yosvani Alarcón believes that the Cuba team can show a better image in the Olympic qualifier. “We think it is like that, other times we finished the National Series and we hardly had time to rest. This year, with the theme of the pandemic, after we finished we have had a greater margin to train.”

The catcher from the Las Tunas’ Jobabo municipality is aware that one of the strengths of this team is in the pitching staff. “Unquestionably, in recent years, the best area of the team has been its pitchers. They always do their job but the effectiveness at-bat has been lacking. We, the receivers, are always close to them to jointly accomplish the work that the team needs.”

Yosvani Alarcón trusts that each one of the players is going to give themselves to the maximum in search of the qualification to the Olympic Games. “We can assure the people that we will go with everything. They will be able to see the delivery that the national team will have and we will fight for this classification.”
