Artist from Las Tunas. against the blockade

Las Tunas artists painted the morning with good sensations by joining the “Bridges of Loves” global initiative to demand the end of the cruel economic, commercial and financial blockade that the United States Government has imposed on the Cuban people for more than six decades.

Othoniel MorffisTunas, Cuba.-The Provincial Center for Plastic Arts (CPAP) exhibited two murals, one donated by Nelson Domínguez, National Prize for Plastic Arts, and another made by local artists, such as Leonardo Fuentes, Yamila Coma, Damayanti Mena and Liusan Cabrera. The canvases show the figure of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, the Cuban flag, the royal palm and other symbols that summarize principles and strong patriotic roots.

“We, plastic artists have at various times come to this center, which is our home, to denounce the blockade and join forces, with the help and articulation of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) through graffiti and other events, plus our Callejón de la Ceiba project.

“The blockade affects us in a real way because it is difficult for us to obtain the materials to work with and even Artistic Education. We have had to close plastic arts academies, which disrupts the future of children and young people who love this art.

“We think about what a world without the fence would be like for us, if Cuba could exhibit at these important international fairs ...;, it is something we dream of and we believe it is possible. ThisMartha Oduardo caravan is one more way of showing the world why we Cubans need an end to this policy,” Othoniel Morffis, president of the CPAP reflected.

Martha Oduardo Ramírez, provincial director of Culture, ratified the commitment of Las Tunas creators, even though the blockade limits the development of the sector. They went - she said - to various parts of the city to join this initiative that visualizes the fervor of a whole people who demand their rights. "We live in complex times and our artists are being damaged by that policy," she insisted.

In bicycles, motorcycles, and cars they joined the caravan - from the ring road to the Plaza de la Revolución Mayor General Vicente García González-, raising the national flag and other symbols in demonstration of support for the Revolution. As it passed through the city, the claim of Las Tunas people was heard: "The blockade is like the virus, it hurts, it kills", "This has to stop; it is inhuman and has lasted too long."
