The cooperative's main activity is cattle farming

The integral performance in the attention to cattle and small livestock was the main argument for the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Credit and Service Cooperative (CCS), in Las Tunas, to receive the Award for Productive Excellence, granted by the Cuban Association for Animal Production (ACPA).

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Yordanis Montejo Vargas, president of the CCS, explained to the Cuban News Agency the permanent dedication of the associates so that the productive base has been a millionaire in milk production for three years, and they hope to repeat that success in 2023.

He said that, in the 2,152 hectares that make up the cooperative, the land is dedicated mainly to the cattle; but they also have a large mass of pigs, sheep, and goats.

The Doctor Guillermo Leyva Award was also granted for having guaranteed food for the animals through the promotion of protein plants and the application of artificial insemination, with an 80 percent birth rate.

The "Carlos Manuel de Céspedes" cooperative also stands out for its agroecological practices, pest prevention, soil conservation, and the development of vermiculture.

Given the limitations of the machinery, we do not fold our arms, we have 14 carts pulled by horses and oxen, and as an example, we have the producer Nersa Pérez Vargas, who with a wheelbarrow collects 250 liters of milk daily, Montejo Vargas said.
