Damascus announces its full support for and solidarity with Belarus before Western sanctions

The Syrian Government on Sunday condemned the new package of sanctions imposed on Belarus by the West and rejected its interference in the internal affairs of that European nation.

Damascus.- We strongly condemn these unilateral restrictive measures and the hostile statements by Western officials against Minsk, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed in a statement.

According to the Foreign Ministry, this policy was implemented against the States that defend their sovereign and independent decision. It violates the United Nations Charter, international law, and the principles of sovereignty and non-interference, and undermines the stability and development of these countries.

Damascus, which has been affected by the inhumane effects of such measures, announces its full support for and solidarity with Belarus, and reaffirms its willingness to strengthen historic relations in all fields so that the two friendly nations can cope with external pressures, the Ministry concluded its statement.

The United States announced new sanctions on Belarus, including visa restrictions on 101 officials. (PL)
