Desheredades (Disinheritances), 2023 Cucalambé National Prize in written decima.

Las Tunas is participating in the Havana International Book Fair (FILH), which runs from August 10 to 16, with more than 30 titles covering a diverse range of topics, genres, and audiences, Acirys Espinosa Martínez, director of the local publishing house, told 26.

Books from the Sanlope publishing house at Havana's Fair.Las Tunas, Cuba.– Espinosa Martínez explained that, in addition to 18 printed volumes with approximately 500 copies, the Sanlope publishing house stand features –new this year– a QR code so people can access the books on digital platforms. Poetry for adults, fiction, research, and children's books are all well represented in these offerings. Specifically, on August 15th, our regional publishing house will present its works, and, according to Espinosa Martínez, “that day some twenty literary works will be available in PDF format, which attendees can copy for free if they wish.” This will be a scoop and is part of the celebrations for the 35th anniversary of the Las Tunas publishing house.

Thus, the texts published in the Balcón de Oriente (Cuban Eastern Balcony) at the Morro-Cabaña Historical Military Park, the usual venue for the event, include winning collections from competitions such as the Cucalambé National Prize (written décima) and the “Little Prince” (children's literature). Among the highlights are Desheredades (Disinheritances) by Jorge García Prieto (Poe Cid); Un ángel me deshereda (An Angel Disinherits Me), by Yadira Troche; Pruebas de mi inexistencia (Proofs of My Nonexistence) by Herbert Toranzo; Testimonio personal de la esperanza (Personal Testimony of Hope) Books from the Sanlope publishing house at Havana's Fair.by Carlos Téllez Espino; and Un libro para llenar la luna (A Book to Fill the Moon), by Carlos Ettiel.

Haydée Machado Valdés, an employee of the Fulgencio Oroz Athenaeum bookstore, was selected to represent our region at the prestigious literary event. Before departing for Havana, she told this news outlet that she was very happy with the decision, which recognizes her years of dedication.

In addition to her book duties there, she will participate in the national booksellers' event, a traditional segment of the program. Meanwhile, some of our most prominent young authors share their work at the Cuba Pavilion, encouraged by the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS).

Under the theme "Reading is Growing," the 34th edition of the FILH —originally scheduled for February and postponed due to circumstances— is dedicated to the Centennial of Fidel Castro Ruz, the Russian Federation as Guest of Honor, and the writers Marilyn Bobes and José Bell Lara. According to Acirys, the provincial chapter of the event is currently scheduled for September 4-6.
