Jobabo is lockdown to cut spread of COVID-19

Since Monday, September 20, the most severe restrictions on citizen mobility have been enforced in the southern municipality of Jobabo, in the face of the worst outbreak of COVID-19.

According to information from the Radio, and local authorities, only the most essential services are provided from this date, which is done in stages. Thus, the regular food stores are open between 7:00 and 10:00 in the morning to sell the bread and milk that is distributed through the supply card.

The Temporary Group for the prevention and control of the COVID-19 in Jobabo clarified that only 20 consumers who have not yet acquired the products included in the basic basket, or those donated by solidarity countries, will be dispatched daily. Likewise, the establishments of the Municipal Commerce Company will sell the meat products when they arrive in the municipality.

The gastronomic units La Pizzería and El Kiosko will continue their home delivery services, which can be ordered by phone. The establishments belonging to the Caribe and Cimex chains of stores will sell their merchandise in the neighborhoods, a procedure that will be organized by constituencies. A similar scheme will be followed for the sale of sweets and the products of the Cuban Bread Chain.

COVID-19 in Jobabo

The movement of vehicles will be restricted only to the transfer of health workers, public order agents, and those associated with medical shifts; four checkpoints were established in San Antonio, Berrocal, Santa Gertrudis, and the Jobabo-"Amancio" road. The coachmen will work exclusively in the tasks related to Public Health, Community Services, or Commerce. It was also reported that a Transportation command post operates in the Municipal Health Directorate for the transfer of people to the local hospital, by calling 31 627241, extension 209.

Since the end of August, the local authorities established stricter guidelines for physical distancing and limitation of movement; however, the incidence rate of autochthonous positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants continued to rise. From being below the rate of the province at the end of last month, it became the highest among all Las Tunas municipalities.

Faced with this situation, the Government also responded decreeing the closure of some work centers with a large number of workers, such as the Tobacco Factory, the Charcoal Benefit Plant, and the textile manufacturing workshop, belonging to the Melissa Clothing Company.

For its part, the Health System increases its capacities in hospitalization wards; especially in the center attached to the 14 de Junio Hospital, at the Manifiesto de Montecristi Polytechnic Agricultural Institute. The Carlos Manuel de Céspedes semi-boarding school will soon serve as the institution for the care of those convalescing from COVID-19. Likewise, it is emphasized that the reception of patients with respiratory symptoms is carried out in the consultations established for this purpose at the Manuel Fajardo School, the Argentina Sur district, and the "Manifesto de Montecristi". They will be, they assured, stricter in the confrontation with indiscipline in the neighborhoods, as well as in the quality of the health inquiry.
