Soberana vaccines are like a gift for Cuban children

Anthony, Daniela, Eduardito, Emi, and Isabela received this weekend "a scientific gift;” it is the Soberana 02 vaccine against COVID-19 that since this month awakens a wave of hope in Cuba’s fight against the pandemic.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- During the last two days, some 200 sites, essentially schools, medical offices, polyclinics, and work centers have hosted this singular present, which is the result of decades of development of the national biotechnological industry and little more than a year of effort to develop and produce the Cuban vaccines Abdala, Soberana 02 and Soberana Plus.

With some anxiety, they lived the previous days in each home: fear of puncture, explanations about the importance of the drug and what happens in the body after receiving it, promises to be brave and not fear... and such an extensive list until reaching the final day. For many, it was a party and as such, the day began and even the best garment for the occasion was chosen.

Anthony Davis Salinas Verdecia, at the age of 6, was very clear about the importance of receiving the vaccine; he arrived at the vaccination center located in the vicinity of the Constructive Maintenance Company, belonging to the health area of the Aquiles Espinosa polyclinic, accompanied by his brother and his mother.

A: No, no, the puncture did not hurt - he said sure and calm.

J: And why did you get vaccinated, Anthony?

A: So I don't get COVID.

J: And how have you taken care of the COVID-19?

A: With the mask, washing my hands with alcohol, playing at home... Now, I am very happy to be vaccinated and, soon, I will start the first grade.

For the families of girls and boys between 2 and 10 years old, the last days have brought pride and happiness. For this reason, Anthony's mother wanted to express her gratitude to those who made possible the vaccination of her two children.

"It makes me very happy to know that my children have, both, the first dose of the vaccine and that they are already acquiring some immunity against the coronavirus," she expressed; while also highlighted the health intervention as part of which she had been immunized before.

For her part, Oniria Pérez Oliva, grandmother of Dariannis Rivero, both residents on La Victoria neighborhood, of this city, said she was “happy because her granddaughter is closer to taking up classes again in November, and thanked the Cuban Revolution for the promotion of this campaign for the immunization of all Cubans children from two years of age.
