Debate Meeting of Literary Workshops and Popular Storytellers, municipal chapter

Developing the potential of new talents, sharing experiences, and recognizing the most outstanding works were some of the guidelines of the Debate Meeting of Literary Workshops and Popular Storytellers, whose municipal chapter was held recently, before the provincial event, which will take place on February 23 and 24.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- In the capital city, a total of 28 workshop participants were evaluated in the modalities of Poetry and Decima by Freddy Laffita, Ana Pérez, and Antonio Gutiérrez, while in Narrative the responsibility fell on Maritza Batista, Argel Fernández and Luis Andrés Till.

In the Poetry section (for adults), Las sagradas certidumbres, by Jorge Luis Reyes Peña, won the award, followed by the main mention, which went to Ausencia, by Migdalia González Vázquez. The texts Senescencia, by Karel Rivero Borrero, and El furor de los bardos, by Esteban García López, also received mentions.

In this same lyrical composition, but aimed at children, the winners were the poems ¿Por qué los abuelos tienen líneas en la cara?, by Elisa Pérez Rivero (prize) and Chamaquili, by Magalys Duarte (mention).

As for the octosyllabic rhyme, the prize went to Laberinto decimal, by Jorge Luis Reyes, while the mentions went to La décima ventana, by Esteban García López (most outstanding) and Amor, by María Isabel.

In the Novel genre, Adrián, by Adrián Ch. González, received a mention. In Oral Narration, the prize went to Alberto Milián Navarro, while the mentions went to Magalys Duarte and Roberto Pérez Vázquez.

In Storytelling for Adults, several garlands were awarded. The first one went to Caldo de pichón, by Elisa Pérez. The second was El miedo cobarde, by Juan Osorio Rojas, and the third was El único amigo, by Neivis Rivera Morales. Mentions were also awarded to Migdalia González Vázquez (Title: Una fiesta), Esteban García López (Sin principios) and Antonio Torres Consuegra (Resurrección).

In the Children's Short Story category, Ariannys Portelles Lozada won first prize for her work Verde amarillo, followed by Para los niños que no se ven, by Elisa Pérez Rivero and La nueva vida del bosque, by Alberto Milián Navarro. The mentions went to Ana, la costurera de los sueños, by Yoan Santiago Verdecia, and En el bosque, by Magalys Duarte Rondón.

In a dialogue with 26, Jorge Luis Reyes Peña, winner in verses, said: "Poetry is a capsule that allows, with a minimum of words, to share a discourse, a way of transmitting messages of peace and love. It influences human improvement, influences the brain's reasoning, develops the intellect, and makes us think."

Regarding the Debate Encounters... said the winner of the first edition of the National Sonnet Contest Antonio Borrego: "Listening to the criteria of so many people, among the jury and the participants, nourishes more than a speech because we get feedback and grow in experience."
