The people of Las Tunas went to the streets to celebrates the Lumberjacks second championship

For as long as this reporter can remember, people went to the stadium to "have fun" with that basement team, cheering every game as if their lives depended on it.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Yes, my dear Juan Emilio Batista and Eddy López, who claimed to be the sports commentators who had narrated the most defeats in Cuba, will know from heaven; but there they went again, and like the people who went to the "Mella" at that time, they felt ecstatic at the possibility of winning that day, at least that day.

It has always been that way. The players know that in the stands, while they compete on any diamond in Cuba, there is a whole strength that never leaves them, and it has grown wrapped in the love for the green and red jersey, also an inheritance from parents and grandparents.

This year, the already double national champions, told the press that they would dedicate the result to the memory of Nay Caballero, another example of the complicity of athletes and fans. Nay, who recently passed away, never tired of encouraging dreams from the stands.

With the last out at the “Latino”, the Zabala comparsa went out to tour the streets of the capital of Las Tunas, and in each municipality, the miracle of collective joy was made; the same with cauldrons, jars, cans... screaming spicy village choirs. Today, people live the happiness of knowing that they are part of the collective success.

The same here as in Madrid, New York, or Angola; in distant places, people from Las Tunas have been seen celebrating through social media at different times: in the middle of a working morning, or the happiest gather in a common space that transports them to the warmth of the small homeland.

Champions again! The Lumberjacks return to the pinnacle of national baseball and with them every particle of those of us who today feel with more ardor the pride of being from Las Tunas.
