Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro is in constant communication with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, Yván Gil, Venezuelan Deputy Foreign Minister, said Friday.

Moscow.- Our presidents are aware of what is happening, Gil said, after meeting in Moscow with the chairman of the International Relations Committee of the Federation Council (Senate), Konstantin Kosachov.

The Deputy Foreign Minister clarified that Russia does not provide humanitarian aid to Venezuela, only goods as part of commercial contracts.

"We have a normal situation and we have agreements with Russia for the supply of medicines, products and technology," said the Venezuelan official.

Gil explained that due to the impossibility of making any purchase in Europe and the United States, Venezuela had to approach Russia and China and acquire technology in those friendly countries which don't block or sanction it.

The Deputy Foreign Minister denied the existence of any request for military aid from Russia, since he considered his country to have sufficient capacity to guarantee its defense and the peace of the Venezuelan people.

For the Vice Minister, any solution to the internal dispute between the opposition and the government should be sought through a national dialogue and thus the support of Caracas to the proposal of Mexico, Uruguay and the CARICOM Group, in four stages.

Gil considered that in Venezuela there is no possibility for a military coup d'état or a popular uprising, but admitted the risk of external meddling.

If presidential elections are now held in Venezuela, the Vice Foreign Minister affirmed that, according to the polls in his power, the current constitutional president, Nicolás Maduro, would win. (PL)
