AU Commission Chairperson Faki Moussa Mahamat said the warring parties in Sudan must immediately cease fire.

Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council gathered to consider an organization's call for a de-escalation plan to finish the bloody conflict in Sudan. 

Addis Ababa.- AU Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Bankole Adeoye, told the Ethiopia News Agency that they are committed to continue working in coordination with partners in an expanded mechanism and to promote the factors that silence arms in Khartoum.

A council session held Saturday led by Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and Adeoye, which was attended by AU Commission Chairperson Faki Moussa Mahamat and Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Executive Secretary Workneh Gebeyehu, focused on the issue.

Museveni wrote on his Twitter account that Sudan does not belong to the army, but to the people, therefore, unconditional and immediate cessation of hostilities to stop the tragedy in Africa is of great importance.

Gebeyehu revealed on the same social network that "I briefed on the IGAD Assembly commitment towards a peaceful resolution of the Sudan crisis, and our collaboration with the AU, UN, and other partners to support the Sudanese people’s aspirations for peace and stability’.

Mahamat, in turn, said the warring parties in Sudan must immediately cease fire, and allow humanitarian action, inclusive political transition, and civilian-led democratic governance while speaking online at the session. (PL)
