Angola's President Joao Lourenco announced a pardon for 300 prisoners.

The President of Angola, Joao Lourenco, pardoned the sentences of 300 people serving prison terms, in tribute to the spirit of unity and fraternity of 50 years of national independence, the press reported today.

Luanda.- The presidential decree on the matter noted that November 11, the date on which the country celebrates its liberation from colonialism, is very important and serves as an appropriate occasion for undertaking acts of clemency like this.

It added that it aligns to ensure a climate of harmony, leniency, unity, and fraternity in this year of celebrations marking half a century of independence, so that those convicted who have shown good behavior and pose no social danger can reintegrate into their families.

This is the third pardon this year, and the largest so far, as the first was granted at the beginning of 2025 to 51 people. (PL)
