The assistance responds to a request from the Grenadian government to boost the operational capacity of the fishing sector.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) delivered equipment to Grenada's Department of Fisheries to help local fishermen mitigate the effects of natural disasters, the international agency announced.

Saint George.- On its website, the UNDP office stated that the delivery includes life jackets, floating VHF radios, portable GPS units, handheld compasses, mooring buoys, and jerrycans.

This assistance responds to a specific request from the Grenadian government to boost the operational capacity of the fishing sector, which is crucial to food security and the local economy.

“Recovery is only the beginning when a disaster strikes. Building resilience ensures that communities can withstand future impacts,” the UNDP said in the statement.

Elizabeth Charles-Soomer, an official with the Office, formally delivered the supplies and said the action is part of the international organization’s ongoing commitment to supporting development priorities led by countries in the region and protecting livelihoods from the growing threat of extreme weather events.
