Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Mekdad expressed his country's appreciation to Venezuela for its support and condemned the US interference in the internal affairs of that South American nation.

Damascus.- We again reject the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed by the West on Damascus, Caracas, and the other peoples that reject hegemony and cling to their sovereignty and independent national decision, Al-Mekdad said after receiving new Venezuelan Ambassador José Gregorio Piomorji Musatis.

The head of Syrian diplomacy reiterated support for Venezuela in the face of attempts from external interference in its internal affairs, especially by the United States.

On the other hand, he stated that the rise of leftist forces in Latin America reinforces the conviction that the peoples of this continent do not accept being submissive to the imperialist hegemony, which seeks to sow chaos and destabilize them.

The Venezuelan diplomat ratified, in turn, his country’s support for the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Syria and highlighted Damascus’ role in confronting terrorism and preventing its spread to the world. (PL)
