The transition to renewable energy sources in the province is making steady progress with the financial backing from the Commerce and Credit Bank (BANDEC). Some 148 loans have already been granted, amounting to over 10,150,000 pesos.
Las Tunas, Cuba.– The banking institution is consolidating its support for electricity generation using solar panels, providing relief to both the national power grid and the household and productive economy.
Noemí Ortiz Fonseca, head of the Business Banking department at the BANDEC Las Tunas provincial office, explained that these loans have already benefited workers in priority sectors. "Loans have been granted to Heroes of Labor and personnel from the Education and Health sectors, who were selected to acquire photovoltaic systems and did not have the necessary resources to purchase them outright."
The importance of this financial support lies in eliminating the disbursement barrier that prevents workers and their families from accessing clean technologies that will contribute significant savings and greater electrical stability in their homes in the medium term.
Ortiz Fonseca, who also serves new economic actors —self-employed workers, micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), and non-agricultural cooperatives—explained that the loan portfolio has been expanded to include these productive forms, in addition to state-owned enterprises and farmers.
"The process is simple: those interested should go to the bank branch where they hold their checking account with a detailed offer outlining the cost of the solar panel kit or equipment they wish to purchase.”
"They will have a minimum interest rate of three percent, regardless of the time it takes to recover the investment," she emphasized.
The loan amount, the specialist clarified, is not fixed; it is adjusted to each request, according to each client's needs and payment capacity.
