The 26 newspaper staff held an academic workshop this Wednesday as part of activities commemorating Cuban Press Day, celebrated on March 14.
Las Tunas, Cuba.– The session began with the presentation of a reception study on the needs of the online audience, which constituted the master's thesis of journalist Dayana Menzoney Justiz. She explained that this academic work provides tools for better understanding the audience demands on digital platforms.
In the initial discussion, she emphasized the importance of identifying and meeting readers' expectations on social media and the website, enabling the staff to continue the path of hypermedia journalism initiated in 2000. A Quality Management Manual was also shared, designed to support the work of proofreaders, web editors, and reporters, guiding journalistic production toward standards that better meet the needs of online readers.
The workshop dedicated a section to reflecting on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in contemporary journalism. István Ojeda Bello, a
reporter with the publication, explained how it can be used in journalism and offered useful information for the use of these tools, emphasizing the importance of understanding and using them correctly. He stressed that, beyond the technology itself, it is essential to preserve the critical and cognitive abilities of press professionals.
For her part, Zucel de la Peña Mora stressed the need to carefully review information obtained through AI, noting that it represents both a challenge and an opportunity for the profession.
The meeting reaffirmed the staff's commitment to professional development and the search for new ways of practicing journalism in line with the demands of the digital age.
